Board approves $689,497 audiovisual upgrade for Chalmette High cultural arts center

Facilities staff presented the tabulation of proposals and said two qualified companies responded; the steering committee scored proposals on price, experience and familiarity with the facility and recommended PSX, which previously had worked at the center and offered the lowest price.
Mister Fernandez, presenting the recommendation, said PSX’s familiarity and price made it the committee’s pick: “So we're recommending that we accept the proposal from PSX for a total of 689,497 for the total upgrade and restoration of the audio visual system at the cultural at Chapman High School.” The presenter and committee members described repeated storm and electrical damage over the years, and said parts for older systems became unavailable during COVID, which made a full upgrade necessary.
Board members asked about funding and schedule. The funds will come from the district’s building maintenance fund, and the presenter said work would begin after the school production and the team hoped to finish by Nov. 1 so the center would be ready for holiday performances.
A motion to accept PSX’s proposal was made and seconded by board members; the board approved the recommendation (vote recorded as 10 in favor).
