Board approves minutes, disposes 2013 Bluebird bus and forwards 2025-26 expenditures to full board; sales tax up 6.45% in May

The Katy Perry School Board approved routine items and took several administrative actions at its June 3, 2025, regular meeting.

Minutes and consent items: The board approved the minutes of the May 6, 2025 meeting and the Budget and Finance Committee, Personnel Insurance and Curriculum Committee meeting dated May 20, 2025. Motions to approve minutes were made and seconded and carried by voice vote.

Disposal of 2013 Bluebird bus: The board authorized disposal of a 2013 Bluebird bus (VIN 1BAKGCPH9DF291497) and granted the superintendent authority to proceed with title transfer for insurance purposes. The motion was made by James Higginbotham and seconded by Richard (last name as recorded) and carried on a voice vote.

Budget and committee referrals: The Budget and Finance Committee sent recommended expenditures for the 2025—6 budget to the full board for approval; the committee motion was made by James Edda David and seconded by James Higginbotham and carried. The committee also forwarded specific committee recommendations to the full board for items including: a Head Start employee incentive request (2024—6), the official journal bid for 2025—6, and a child nutrition bid (number 334 SL-foods). Each of these were moved in committee and sent to the full board for formal action.

Travel approvals: The board approved committee recommendations to forward out-of-state travel requests to the full board: Iota High School cheerleaders and dance line to perform at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, Feb. 18—6, 2026; Midland High School Family, Career and Community Leaders of America to attend the National Leadership Conference in Orlando, July 5—6, 2025; and Branch Elementary to attend the National Beta Convention in Orlando, June 29—6, July 3, 2025.

Sales tax report: District finance staff reported a strong May sales tax collection, up 6.45% for May and up 1.67% year-to-date with one month remaining in the fiscal year. The brief report was given by district staff identified in the record as Justin.
