The Finance, Insurance and Section 16 Lands Committee recommended awarding the highest bids that met specifications for hunting and trapping leases on Section 16 lands for the term beginning Aug. 6, 2025, through June 30, 2035, and authorized the purchasing department to re-advertise sections that received no bids or where leases were surrendered.
The recommendation included authorization for the superintendent or board president to sign necessary lease documents. Committee minutes show the motion was moved by Mr. Lagarde and seconded by the committee chair; the chair called for objections and, hearing none, declared the motion passed.
Committee members and staff discussed mapping and locations for the leased sections. Staff said many Section 16 parcels follow public-land survey lines, and some are water bottoms that remain property of the parish despite changes in shoreline. Committee members used parish mapping tools during the discussion to show locations near Lake Pelto and Lake Michan and to explain geographic irregularities on the public-lands map.
The purchasing department was authorized to re-advertise unleased parcels and those where leases were surrendered; the superintendent or board president was authorized to sign documents related to awarded leases.
