The Terrebonne Parish School Board approved the 2025–26 Student Code of Conduct at its July 17 meeting and discussed plans to deliver the document primarily online while making printed copies available on request.
Board member Mark Torbert, who presented the item, said the code is intended to be linked on school sites to avoid large printing costs. "It cost kids united to go out to get it printed, maybe $8‑10 plus to print 1 for each kid," Torbert said, explaining the shift toward electronic distribution and the ability to update the code online if policy changes during the year.
During public comment and board discussion, members urged the district to provide printed copies on a limited basis for families who request them and to ensure copies are available at disciplinary hearings. Board member Charles Ford suggested offering printed copies with first‑day paperwork and providing them during disciplinary or expulsion proceedings. Assistant staff confirmed that copies are available during expulsion hearings.
Torbert and other board members urged the public to consult the online document before reacting to social media commentary about minor changes. Torbert asked the public to "take a closer look, and actually read what's written in black and white and not really go off of hearsay." He also clarified that recommendations added to the student code had been proposed by a committee of district stakeholders and were not board initiatives made at this meeting.
The board approved acceptance of the 2025–26 Student Code of Conduct. Board members said they intend to continue working with schools and families to balance security and practicality and to accommodate parents who request printed copies.
