"Our services not only include 4‑H, but we also have a fisheries agent... and nutrition agents who work with our schools as well," said Sherry Roger, an LSU AgCenter representative, describing a range of services the center will provide.
The board discussion noted outreach opportunities with other local programs. Board member Charles Ford (addressing the room as "Mister Ford") said he supported the five‑year term and encouraged continued outreach, citing examples in neighboring parishes. "I'm glad that LSU Ag is really doing a lot of outreach... I'm glad that you're doing that," Ford said.
The motion was made, seconded and approved with no recorded opposition. The committee list presented at the meeting included committee members and school officials; the superintendent and his staff were acknowledged as part of the arrangement.
The agreement will permit LSU AgCenter personnel — identified in the meeting as 4‑H, fisheries and nutrition agents — to deliver program activities at school sites and through related outreach. Board members said the multi‑year term will help program stability and encourage the district to expand agricultural programming.
The board did not provide a detailed budget line or funding source for the cooperative endeavor during the presentation; the motion authorized the superintendent to sign documents associated with the agreement.
Board members and school staff encouraged continued coordination with local partners such as the Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON) and community colleges to broaden student engagement in agriculture and related career pathways.
