Mercedes ISD board unanimously approves superintendent's personnel recommendations

The Mercedes Independent School District Board of Trustees on Monday approved personnel recommendations presented by Superintendent Dr. Noyola following an executive session.

"Administration recommends as discussed in executive session," Dr. Noyola said before the board moved to act. The board approved the superintendent's recommendations in a series of motions, with motions moved and seconded by board members and recorded as passing unanimously.

The board took the votes in public after the closed executive session. Board members who voted "aye" on the motion included Mr. Hernandez, Mr. Rovino, Mr. Genosa, Mr. Rodriguez and Mr. Howell; the meeting record shows the motions carried unanimously. The motions were introduced as approvals of resignations, terminations, appointments, evaluations, reassignments and duties of professional, paraprofessional and noncontract employees, including teachers and substitutes, as discussed during the executive session.

Separately, the board recorded no public action on a student book-discipline matter (noted as "no action") and no action after a private consultation with the district's attorney.

The approvals followed the statutory avenue of executive session discussion; the board did not disclose personnel details or specific names during the open meeting. Minutes and personnel records that would identify individual employment actions were not read into the public record during the meeting.

Copies of motions and formal personnel orders were not included verbatim in the public transcript; the board chair announced the motions and the roll-call votes were taken in open session. The board adjourned after additional routine business.
