The Tucumcari City Commission voted May 8 to authorize staff to proceed with awarding Bid Lot 1A for Fourth Street rehabilitation to Pacheco’s Construction.
Staff presented Bid Lot 1A as the portion of the overall Fourth Street project that best fit current grant funding. The scope includes roughly three-quarters of the 300 block of Fourth Street from the alley by the detention center north toward Main Street, milling and regrading, subgrade stabilization, new asphalt and ADA-compliant sidewalk work. City staff said the millings would be taken to the city lot for reuse on future projects if not needed in the road substructure.
The engineer’s estimate was $383,000; the low bid came in at $274,000. Staff asked for permission to award the bid and return with the formal contract and notice of award. Commissioners asked staff to ensure the contract delineates subgrade, asphalt thickness and curbing specifications; staff said those details will be included in the contract packet.
Commissioner questions included whether existing sewer repairs would interfere with the work; staff said the county repaired the main sewer line in the area and that a separate sag in another line may still require county remediation but would not block the bid lot work. Commissioners noted that grant awards often require phasing when funds are less than the full project request.
A motion to accept the recommendation to award Bid Lot 1A to Pacheco’s Construction carried on roll-call votes recorded as yes by present commissioners.
