The committee approved design work to renovate the Advanced College and Career Center gymnasium for career-technical programs, including welding and electrical shops. The administration identified a design fee of $221,406 and estimated construction at $3,000,000.
Administrators said the renovation will include program-specific needs: slab evaluation for heavy equipment, upgraded electrical service for welding machines, ventilation, and other code and safety requirements. Board members asked whether those systems were included in the scope; administration confirmed evaluations of slab strength, electrical and ventilation will be part of design.
Administration noted that some funding for the project would come from grant sources identified during earlier grant-writing efforts and that at least $1 million in local CDF funds was planned as a district contribution; the precise funding mix will be finalized after design and as grant awards are determined.
Motion and vote: The motion to proceed with design was made by Mister Duncan and seconded by Mister Piazza. The motion carried.
Next steps: Administration will engage an architect to develop program and schematic designs, determine firm construction estimates and identify grant funding matches before returning to the board for construction authorization.
