Board member (speaker) expressed that constituents near the proposed site had complained about buses parked on campus and said, “putting it on that campus is gonna create problems,” and announced an intention to vote against the design. Other members noted that mechanics need regional locations and that a South End site was preferred for volume from Hammond and Ponchatoula.
Several members asked administration to include site-surface improvements in design so buses would not be parked on grass (gravel or paving options were discussed). Administration emphasized this vote only authorizes design work; any construction spending would return to the board for approval.
Motion and vote: Motion to adopt administration recommendation was made by a board member and seconded by Miss Dominguez. The committee approved the design request; Miss Richards and Mister Moore voted no. The motion passed.
Next steps: Administration will complete schematic design and return with feasibility details, construction estimates and options for surfacing and staging to address community concerns. The committee requested consultation with local government and community stakeholders as design moves forward.
