Personnel committee approves revised job description for district literacy coordinator

At the personnel committee’s first meeting of 2025, members unanimously approved a revised job description for the district literacy coordinator.

Dr. Lisa Fussell presented the item, saying the position is an existing role and not a new hire. “This is, a current position. This is not a new position. Doctor Linda Baker has served in this role for over 20 years,” Fussell said.

Fussell told the committee the original job description had been written around a federal grant called Reading First, which no longer exists. “The original description was based on a grant. It was called Reading First. Since that grant doesn't exist, we just wanted to refresh the title. And, doctor Baker will be retiring this semester, so we wanted to go ahead and, bring it before you all,” she said.

Fussell described core duties of the updated job description: overseeing the ELA curriculum for K-12, leading literacy professional development for teachers, and pursuing grants and budget work to support literacy initiatives. “This person oversees our ELA curriculum for k through 12, and all of our literacy professional development for our teachers. Perfect. They also write, for super out there are grants. We, they they are actively pursuing grants for professional development and, dealing with budgets,” she said.

Committee members asked no substantive questions and proceeded to a motion and second. Voting opened and closed with the committee announcing the motion passed unanimously. Earlier in the meeting, the committee confirmed a quorum of three members was present.

With no further business on the agenda, the personnel committee adjourned.
