Seguin ISD renews Communities In Schools agreement to continue on-campus social-support services

The Seguin Independent School District Board of Trustees approved a renewal of the district’s contract with Communities In Schools (CIS) to provide on-campus site coordinators and related services at multiple campuses.
Susan Wetz, CEO, and a CIS program officer briefed the board on services provided during the prior year and on outcomes tracked under CIS’s TEA-funded contract. CIS staff described three service tiers: intensive individualized services (a TEA-funded target number), broader preventative supports and family-engagement activities. The organization reported serving the contract’s intensive target group and delivering thousands of supplemental services to students and families; mental and behavioral health accounted for the largest category of service delivery.
CIS representatives said their staff include licensed, master’s-level professionals on middle- and high-school campuses and that short-term solution-focused therapy is provided through retained grants at no additional cost to the district; CIS also described a crisis-response capability that the district can call on when campuses experience traumatic events. The presenters noted that CIS’s district agreement covered seven campuses: Seguin High School (two full-time staff), Mercer/Bloomberg Learning Center (MBLC), AJB alternative center, Jim Barnes Middle School, Potlawn, Jefferson and Weinert.
Board members asked whether campuses without on-site CIS coordinators receive support in emergencies; CIS replied that crisis response is available for any campus in need, though intensive ongoing services are focused where CIS has a site coordinator. One trustee noted the per-student cost implied by the contract and praised CIS’s reach; the contract amount presented at the meeting was approximately $309,000 for the coming year.
The board approved the agreement by unanimous voice vote (6–0).
