The Bossier Parish School Board elected Eric Newman as board president and Sherry Poole as vice president during its June 12 regular session.
Board President Creighton Cochran opened nominations; the board had one nominee for president (Eric Newman) and one nominee for vice president (Sherry Poole). The motion to elect Newman and Poole passed by voice/roll-call with all 11 present members voting in favor.
After the vote, Newman thanked the board and recognized family members in the audience. “Thank you everybody. Appreciate y’all, having faith in me to continue on, and we, we continue to do good things,” Newman said. Sherry Poole told colleagues she had learned from them since joining the board two years earlier and said she looked forward to serving as vice president.
The board’s roll-call votes were read into the record during the meeting; the clerk recorded individual votes for both offices. The election settles the board’s internal leadership after Creighton Cochran announced he will leave his board position to join the Bossier City Council on July 1.
Newman and Poole will serve in their leadership roles until the board’s next officer election or as prescribed by board policy. No changes to board policy were proposed during the June 12 meeting.
