The Tangipahoa Parish School Board voted July 15 to enter a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Saint James Parish to permit emergency use of Amy Westside School. The MOU allows Saint James Parish to occupy the facility with 24–48 hours’ notice in the event of an emergency; the agreement also addresses food service, building condition, and responsibilities for returning the building in usable condition. The administration recommended approval and said the agreement is intended for mutual aid and recovery support. Board members noted prior experiences using district campuses for sheltering and asked questions about logistical lessons learned; administrators said the MOU includes detailed recovery steps and that Saint James Parish prepared the agreement carefully. The board approved the MOU and said it hopes never to need it but welcomed the ability to be a regional partner in emergencies.
