The Tangipahoa Parish School Board voted July 15 to award a two-year electrical maintenance services contract with Marks Electric designated as the primary provider and Randy DePaula Electric named as backup. Procurement staff said four proposals were received; two bidders were disqualified for failing to meet minimum requirements, leaving Marks Electric with the highest score and DePaula second. The contract covers repair and maintenance work (hourly repairs and service calls) and does not bar any firm from bidding on larger replacement projects in the future. Several board members raised concerns after the low score given to a local firm that has historically done HVAC work for the district. They asked administration for the committee scorecards and other supporting documentation so the board could respond to vendor inquiries. Administration said the scoring showed Sharkey’s (HVAC-focused firm) had less electrical experience compared with bidders focused on electrical work. The board approved the recommendation and asked staff to provide the scoring materials to support the decision if challenged.
