The Northside Board of Trustees got an update July 22 on plans to refresh the district boardroom using $10,000 in proceeds associated with a James B. Crow award previously received by Trustee Blunt. Project lead Brian Wiggins outlined a modest plan: remove framed past‑board portraits (already done), digitize historic boardroom photographs and student artwork, and install a 55‑inch display in the foyer outside the boardroom so passersby can see rotating district messaging and artwork. Wiggins said the display would be placed in the lobby where the doors remain open during public meetings to avoid distracting attendees inside the boardroom and to increase visibility. Timeline and cost: The $10,000 award will cover materials and programming for the display, Wiggins said. If the board approves, the project will move to architect drawings (two to three weeks), contractor pricing (about two weeks) and construction (an estimated three to four weeks), with a target timeline of a few weeks to a couple of months depending on contractor availability. Accessibility and programming: The project team said the finished installation will comply with ADA projection limits and could later expand to include speaker audio, live feeds of boardroom proceedings or interactive designs, though the first phase will be a simple monitor and scheduling content. Board direction: Trustees asked staff to proceed; staff also suggested placing the board’s mission statement on a prominent wall in the room as part of the refresh.
