Montgomery approves solid-waste rate change; city to notify customers in August billing

The City Council of Montgomery, Texas, adopted an ordinance July 15 to amend the city’s solid-waste collection service rates under the current contract, city staff said. City staff explained the contract includes an annual adjustment formula. The council discussed the components of the increase and staff said the change will take effect Aug. 1; customers will see the adjusted amounts on billing processed beginning Aug. 22. Staff said the city placed a notice on its calendar and will post the rate change on the city website. During the discussion a staff presenter described contract indexing elements including fuel and CPI-like adjustments; councilmembers questioned the percentage and staff clarified how the contract formula produces the listed change. The ordinance was presented by staff and the council approved the item by voice vote. The city did not adopt a separate customer‑assistance program at the July 15 meeting. Staff said notifications will be mailed and posted online.
