Commissioners approved authorization July 22 for a $10,887 repair to a broken sanitary sewer fitting beneath the concrete slab at the county jail, subject to legal review of the contractor agreement and use of SPLOST funds. County staff reported that after completing kitchen plumbing work, a scope camera inspection revealed a broken fitting in the jail’s sanitary line beneath the slab. The recommended contractor, Max Air Plumbing — the same firm that completed the kitchen plumbing work — provided a quote of $10,887 to replace the line portion and complete necessary repairs. Several commissioners asked that the contract be reviewed by the county attorney before the county commits funds; counsel noted the agreement includes standard provisions such as limitation-of-liability clauses and recommended legal review prior to execution. A motion to allow the work to proceed, contingent on legal review of the contract, passed. The board authorized the chair or vice chair to sign the agreement after counsel’s review, with payment to come from SPLOST funds. Staff said the scope of work and quote will be double-checked and that the contractor previously performed related kitchen plumbing work at the facility.
