The Waterloo City Council Finance Committee approved travel requests for multiple city employees during its meeting. Councilmembers voted to authorize travel and registration expenses for staff from aviation, emergency medical services, police, community development and other departments.
The committee approved a travel authorization of up to $2,250 for aircraft live-burn training at Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids for Rusty’s (ops coordinator), Troy Deeds, Tyler Hare, Cody Wilson and Griffin Cameron. It authorized up to $1,280 for Steven Kiergaard, director of aviation, to attend the Four States Airport Conference in Kansas City, Missouri, Aug. 19–20. The committee approved up to $1,012 for Jason Hernandez (WFR medical supervisor) and Don Ward (WFR EMS administrative secretary) to attend the IEMSA Regional EMS Billing and Documentation Conference in West Des Moines.
Committee members also approved travel not to exceed $4,945 for Sergeant Jordan Eilers, Detective Jesse Atchison and Detective Gavin Kramer to attend the National Gang Research/Crime Center training in Chicago, and a registration expense of $4.40 for Angie Fordyce, community development coordinator, to attend a housing development roundtable session in Des Moines. The motion to approve the travel requests was adopted by voice vote.
The approvals were moved and seconded during the meeting and carried on an affirmative voice vote, with no roll-call tally recorded in the meeting record.
