The district expects substantial completion by Labor Day, though he said crews may need to work weekends near the finish and some rooms may be without air conditioning for short periods while equipment is installed.
McCreese described uncovering legacy issues during demolition: drop ceilings bolted to older HVAC housings, improperly routed wiring and piping that required reconfiguration, and ducting that in some wings must remain exposed due to the roof geometry. The district is using a phased approach, starting in A Wing and working toward E Wing, and anticipates some painting or cosmetic work during winter or next summer depending on funding and reimbursement from the state’s ROD grant. He said the district expects to recover about 40% of the project cost from state reimbursement programs where applicable.
Board members and community volunteers discussed potential community painting days after construction, and a trustee thanked Mr. McCreese and principal staff for their planning. Superintendent Dr. Pizzo said facility contractors have been coordinated with school leadership to create contingency plans in case areas are still being completed when school reopens.
This update was a report to the board; no separate action to change timelines or budgets was taken at the meeting.
