The San Marcos City Council on July 22 proclaimed September 2025 as National Preparedness Month and highlighted city resilience efforts, emergency apps and an upcoming preparedness fair.
The Council read a proclamation noting FEMA's designation of September as National Preparedness Month and cited local resilience projects including the upcoming Fire Station No. 5 construction and completion of the San Marcos Creek project, which staff said improves flood protection. The proclamation said the Fire Department conducts over 3,200 wildfire mitigation inspections annually and maintains city fire hydrants.
Jamie, a city fire official, reported increased registrations for AlertSanDiego and encouraged residents to sign up at alertsandiego.org and to download the Genesis Protect app for vetted real-time evacuation information. "Our registration for Alert San Diego has actually gone up by a couple of thousand. Actually, over 4,000 registrations," Jamie said, adding the city will host an Emergency Preparedness Fair on September 13 with more than 25 vendors and bilingual resources.
The council and presenters recommended residents prepare to be self-sufficient for at least 72 hours, create a "go bag," and set mobile alerts. Staff also mentioned an annual fire open house in October. No formal council action beyond the proclamation was required.
