Board approves security monitoring, tech‑fellow, food logistics contracts and Irons Middle toilet renovation purchase

The Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees approved multiple district purchases and a construction purchase at Tuesday’s meeting, including upgrades to cybersecurity monitoring, funding for a Texas Tech principal residency tech‑fellow, a new food‑service logistics contract, insurance renewals and a construction contract for Irons Middle School bathroom renovations.

District procurement staff explained the managed detection and response (MDR) system will replace the previous provider (Gradient) with Conquest Technology Services to improve network traffic monitoring, advanced threat detection and incident response; the chief technology officer recommended the change. The board also approved funding for one Tech Fellow in partnership with Texas Tech University; the fellow will participate in a principal residency using grant funds.

Food‑service logistics moved from an Aramark arrangement to multiple vendors as required by a Texas Department of Agriculture audit, the presenter said; the board approved a not‑to‑exceed amount and staff clarified the district will only spend what is needed for services such as moving inventory or responding to equipment failures.

The board approved an annual renewal for general liability and vehicle collision coverage through TASB with a modest premium increase attributable in part to legislative changes and claim history.

On construction, trustees approved the Irons Middle School bathroom renovation purchase and were told the contract amount includes contingency to cover unexpected conditions uncovered during work; unspent contingency would not be spent unless needed.

All procurement and construction items were approved in recorded votes. Staff said they will monitor spending against not‑to‑exceed figures and return to the board if adjustments are necessary.
