Resident seeks council letter of support for home rain garden and community workshop

Jennifer Engle, a new Winfield resident and member of the Lancaster Clean Water Leadership Academy, asked Millersville Borough Council on July 22 for a letter of support for a residential rain garden and an associated community education event. Engle said the homeowners association and Garmin (HOA/management) have approved the installation in her side yard, and the Lancaster Conservancy, Millersville University’s WETTI student watershed program and other groups are partners. Engle said the garden will slow stormwater runoff, serve as a pollinator habitat, and be used for an educational workshop with the League of Women Voters and other partners. She said she has funding in hand and does not require borough funds, but asked the council for a letter of support addressed to the Lancaster County Clean Water Partners and for help publicizing the community workshop once a date is set. Council members suggested taking the proposal to the Public Works committee for consideration at its next meeting and to circulate details via committee channels; the council agreed to send the matter to committee for a recommendation.
