Glynn County Manager Bill Fallon said the county is updating its ordinance to clarify rules for electric bicycles and scooters and planned to deliver a final draft to the Glynn County Board of Commissioners on July 17.
“We're actually updating our ordinance. And so, the final version, will go to the, the board of commissioners on, July 17,” Fallon said on Good News Glenn. Fallon said the update will distinguish different e‑bike speed levels and the permissibility of riding on sidewalks, paths and streets, and that the ordinance will give law enforcement more enforcement authority and the ability to cite repeat offenders.
Fallon described anticipated enforcement tools as increased fines for repeat offenses and clarified legal definitions for “pathways” versus “sidewalks.” He emphasized education and parental responsibility for juvenile riders while noting the number of visitors unfamiliar with local rules.
The broadcast did not include the ordinance text, a proposed fine schedule, or a recorded commission vote. Fallon said the county’s police would retain discretion in enforcement and that officers could begin issuing citations after the ordinance is adopted and published.
