Council introduces amendment to wholesale water agreement to serve Eola Place subdivision

The Broussard City Council on July 22 introduced Ordinance 25-832, which would approve Amendment No. 5 to the wholesale water agreement between the City of Broussard and the Lafayette Parish Consolidated Government to authorize a wholesale sale of water to the Eola Place subdivision, city staff said.
Mel Bertrand presented the item and told the council the amendment is required under the existing wholesale contract to permit water sales to the new development. “In order to do that, we have to go through this process according to our contract to amend the contract to allow us to do this,” Bertrand said. He added that Lafayette Parish would bring the same amendment to its council for parallel approval.
There was no public comment. Council members voted to introduce the ordinance; the vote was recorded as approved on first reading. The ordinance will return for further public process and a subsequent adoption vote at a later meeting, per standard ordinance procedure.
