A caller identified as John told the council July 22 that he spent about 11 months pursuing reimbursement after his vehicle was towed while employees borrowed the car, and he said the dispute involved licensing, insurance reporting and accommodation issues under the Federal Fair Housing Act.
John said his vehicle was towed after a traffic stop while borrowed by two employees. He described repeated efforts to obtain an official justification and to recover towing fees, telling the council he contacted the trooper, the trooper’s supervisors, the chief of police, the news media, the assistant attorney general’s office and the governor’s office before he was reimbursed. “It wasn't until after 11 months of endless calls and emails ... that I was finally reimbursed my towing fee,” John said.
John also stated that the Federal Fair Housing Act requires local communities to provide reasonable accommodation for sober homes and framed his persistence as a matter of principle. Council staff thanked John for calling in; no formal action was taken during the public comment period.
