Provo adds $27.50 congressional expedite postage fee to fee schedule

Provo City amended its consolidated fee schedule July 22 to add a $27.50 postage fee for congressional-expedite passport applications, a change the council approved by unanimous vote.
Bridal Densley, the city’s call center manager, told the council the city began accepting passport applications in 2018 and has seen volumes rise from about 20–30 per month to peak months of more than 200. The Western Passport Agency invited Provo to be one of two locations in Utah to accept congressional expedite applications. “This designation allows Provo City to assist individuals who have received a congressional letter, authorizing urgent travel within 6 to 14 days,” Densley said. Under the expedited process the city must priority express-ship completed applications to the passport agency, and the agency requested the city pass the postage cost to applicants. Densley said the requested addition to the city fee schedule is $27.50 to cover that postage.
After the presentation the council voted; recorded votes show the ordinance amendment passed 7–0. Staff said the fee will be added to the consolidated fee schedule to take effect per the city’s standard fee-adoption procedures.
