Students report language trips, performing arts and community events at school committee meeting

Student representative Zaria and members of the METCO ambassador program updated the committee on recent student activities, travel and school events. Zaria described two language trips over February break: a Spanish trip to Cuba and an exchange program near Paris that lasted two weeks. She said students found the experiences "really immersive for the languages" and reported positive feedback.
Student ambassadors Melenthe, Katie Saul and Brian Miller joined administrators to present on the METCO ambassador program, which pairs two student representatives from each grade to bring concerns and ideas to administrators. A program leader said the ambassadors "meet with myself and the admin team about once a month" and serve as a liaison to gather the pulse of their grades.
Students and staff also highlighted extracurricular events: a BSU potluck with invited schools, rehearsals for the high school production of "Shrek" in May, a multicultural food festival scheduled with a late start to accommodate Ramadan sundown, an IQH Fest hosted by WIQH radio on March 8 with student bands, and a student senate spring sports fair to help underclassmen learn about team opportunities.
Committee members applauded the student presentations and recognized the METCO ambassadors with certificates during the meeting.
