Bristol council proclaims July 2025 Parks and Recreation Month; resident urges water park at Sugar Hollow

The Bristol (Va.) City Council on July 22 adopted a proclamation designating July 2025 as Parks and Recreation Month, recognizing the city’s parks and recreation staff, programs and facilities. Randy Eads, city staff, described Parks and Recreation Month as “a dedicated time to recognize and appreciate the vital role that parks and recreation activities play in enhancing the quality of life,” and highlighted youth sports, senior programs, trails and facilities maintained by the department. Mayor Rebecca Nade read the proclamation and formally designated July 2025 as Parks and Recreation Month in Bristol, noting the department’s role providing recreational and senior services and promoting health and wellness. Danny Hill, who city speakers identified as leading the parks and recreation department, accepted the proclamation on behalf of staff. During the public comment period, resident Braziah Love Lewis told the council, “I wish we had more fun activities for kids like a water park at the Sugar Hollow.” Councilmembers acknowledged the suggestion and thanked the resident for speaking; staff did not provide a plan or budget for a water park during the meeting. The council also formally recognized the work of Parks and Recreation employees and volunteers during the roll call vote adopting the proclamation.
