Community Development opens roofing bids for multiple homeowner rehab projects

City staff opened four roofing bids Jan. 8 for homeowner rehabilitation projects and said the proposals will be taken under advisement.
Nikkita Adams, community development planner, explained the city’s changed process for homeowner roofing: the city contracts with a prime that solicits bids from roofing contractors and then presents the proposals to the city. Linda Gregory read the four submissions, all from Regal Roofing and Construction of Newcastle, for different properties and scopes: single-roof only at 2000 East Carver for $9,388; roof and gutters at one property for $24,813; roof at 1937 West Sixteenth for $56,770 (amount appeared as read); and another roof-and-gutters bid for $10,228.
"We have 4 bids all from the same bidder out of Newcastle for 4 different properties. These are all by Regal Roofing and Construction," Gregory read aloud during the bid opening.
Adams and staff said they would take the bids under advisement and proceed with contractor selection through the homeowner rehabilitation contracting process. The board did not vote on awarding these contracts at the Jan. 8 meeting.
