Bids for the 2025 Parks restroom-construction project — demolition and reconstruction at Thomas Park and a new restroom at Riverview Park — were opened at the Muncie Board of Public Works and Safety meeting on May 28.
Adam Leach, introduced in the meeting as the city engineer, described the scope: “...the demo and construction of a new facility there at Thomas Park and the construction of a restroom facility at Riverview Park, along with the tenant sidewalks and stuff to keep you where you need to go.” Multiple contractors submitted bids; staff read the names and figures into the record and took the submissions under advisement.
Linda (staff) read bids on the record for Monroe Construction Group, Fredericks Incorporated (Pendleton), and CRU Construction. Leach told the board he would “get with Keith. Gary, the architect on the project will prepare a bid tab and we'll, make sure everything was submitted correctly, then we'll make a recommendation for the for the works, during the next meeting.” Leach and staff noted that the bids submitted appeared to be close to one another.
The board did not award a contract at the meeting. The next steps are for the project architect and engineering staff to prepare a formal bid tab, verify compliance and bonding, and return with a recommendation to the Board of Works for approval at a subsequent meeting.
Clarifying details from the bid opening: the project covers Thomas Park (demo and new facility) and Riverview Park (restroom construction and connecting sidewalks); multiple bids were received and will be tabulated by the architect and city engineering staff before a contract award decision.
