Muncie board approves two neighborhood event permits, tables one application

MUNCIE — The Muncie Board of Public Works and Safety approved two event permits on June 6, granting a street closure to the Robinwood Neighborhood Organization for a small Independence Day parade and a noise-exemption and street closure for a back-to-school "Youth With The Future" event organized by Women Support Girls, Women Support Each Other.
Charles Tuitt, a Robinwood organizer, described the neighborhood parade as an annual, family-focused activity: "We have it on a Saturday...we get the kids in the neighborhood and some of them dress up their pets and have a little parade around the neighborhood," he said. Albany, a representative of Women Support Girls, said the Youth With The Future event at 830 East Kirby Avenue will distribute backpacks, food, school supplies and clothes and that the group provided insurance and an EIN on the application.
Board staff asked Women Support Girls to confirm tax-exempt documentation; a staff member noted the application included an EIN but not explicit 501(c)(3) paperwork. The board also asked organizers about security and alcohol prevention; Albany said the event will have security and that security personnel will remove anyone creating problems. The board voted to table the street-closure application for the organization "Foreverlasting Superator" because no representative was present.
