The Muncie Board of Public Works and Safety on June 25 approved a street closure for the Soup Kitchen of Muncie’s sixth annual Carl Kaiser Summerfest.

Dottie Kreps, representing the event, asked the board to close East Charles Street from South Hackley to South Beacon Street on Friday, July 18 from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. “We are looking to close East Charles from South Hackley to South Beacon Street,” Kreps said.

Board members confirmed that the Muncie Police Chief and the Muncie Fire Chief had authorized the closure and approved the application by voice vote. The board chair said documents would be signed after the meeting.

The approval covers only the closure described; any additional permits or operational details beyond the police and fire signoffs were not discussed on the record. The record shows the board treated the request as a routine, one-day public-event closure and provided the required authorization.
