Board approves five street-closure dates for Ball State home football games

On July 16 the Muncie Board of Public Works and Safety approved street closures requested by Ball State Police for five home football dates to help manage pedestrian traffic and tailgates, Lieutenant Anthony Hurst said.
Hurst, the training and special events coordinator for Ball State Police, presented five dates and said the closures are intended to be available as needed rather than as continuous multi-hour blocks. “These closures are really just periodic points in time. It's not necessarily an entire 4 hour time span,” Hurst said. He added the closures help with pedestrian safety and speed the flow of game-day traffic.
The board approved the closures by voice vote after a motion listing the dates: Sept. 13, Oct. 4, Oct. 18, Nov. 5 and Nov. 15. The transcript records a voice vote with no roll-call tally recorded.
Hurst told the board the closures would be used to help pedestrian movement between tailgate areas and the stadium and to ease traffic congestion for quicker egress. The transcript does not include a copy of Ball State’s traffic-management plan or the precise hours each closure would be enacted.
No public opposition or additional conditions were recorded in the meeting transcript.
