The Muncie Board of Public Works and Safety on July 23 approved a street closure permit for the Indiana Black Expo Muncie chapter to hold its annual parade on Aug. 2.
Tasha Barnes Griffin, representing the Indiana Black Expo Muncie chapter and giving an address of 308 North Mangrove Lane, told the board the group has submitted an application, secured required signatures and insurance, and arranged security through Legacy Life Security. “We are asking for a road closure for our annual parade,” Griffin said.
Griffin said the parade will include about 35 units, including walking groups and skating groups, and that participants come from surrounding counties. She told the board the event features music, dancing and giveaways and that the group has run the event for more than 15 years.
A board member moved approval of the permit; the motion was seconded and approved on a voice vote with no opposition recorded. Staff signed the permit so the applicant could receive a copy before leaving the meeting.
The board did not read a detailed street-by-street route into the public record during the meeting; Griffin said she had provided the board with the route in the application packet.
