The Planning Commission was informed July 17 that a recent public hearing gathered input for a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application focused on rehabilitating substandard housing on Lampkin Town Road.
A planning commission member said the planning district will prepare a grant package intended to rehabilitate homes in the Lampkin Town Road area, with project aims similar to a Light Street rehabilitation completed about a decade ago: repairing roofs, fixing leaking conditions and addressing failing septic systems so low‑income residents have safe, habitable housing.
The commission was told the hearing authorized the planning district to assemble the application; whether funding will be awarded depends on availability in the Department of Community and Housing Development and on successful grant selection.
Separately, during the Board of Supervisors report a commission member said the school system’s shortfall had narrowed from about $1 million to roughly $400,000 for the year after reallocation of funds among budget categories.
The commission did not take formal action on grant funding at the July 17 meeting; staff noted the planning district will lead the application process and that final award decisions rest with the funding agency.
