Airport staff and the airport manager engaged FAA about funding; FAA agreed to fund design for repair and reseal work so the city moved to accept the grant and provide the required local match from airport reserves. Staff said the work aims to spread major runway projects across different years to avoid resurfacing both runways in close succession.
Council voted to accept the grant and allocate $5,400 from airport reserves to cover the match; staff noted the project was not previously budgeted because the opportunity arose through discussions with FAA. The council earlier directed staff to use airport reserves rather than discretionary sales tax (DST) reserves for the matching funds following direction during budget workshops.
