The fall festival parade will begin at 10 a.m. Sept. 20 at City Hall and end at Veterans Memorial Park, where the festival and activities will take place, a staff member told the advisory group. The festival programming listed included pony rides, an animal show, a ventriloquist and roughly 30 vendors.
City staff announced that Marty Luffman will serve as grand marshal. A presenter described Luffman as one of the original organizers who started the parade in the mid-1970s and said Luffman has been injured and currently uses a wheelchair.
“He started the parade in ’75, I think it was … He’s in a wheelchair,” a resident recounted when the group discussed Luffman’s role. The presenter asked members to recognize Luffman on social media and said he had been a longtime local who could name many people involved in the parade’s early years.
Parade registration had about 15 entries at the time of the briefing, and staff reported roughly 30 vendor commitments for the festival. The advisory group discussed a recent requirement limiting horse participation to entries that pull a wagon; staff said the sheriff’s department has registered horses in past years and that the requirement reduced horse entries from private participants.
No formal action was taken at the meeting; staff asked members to help publicize Luffman’s selection and the festival schedule.
