Staff member Fred told the council that, following the opening of the new Station 92, now is the time to remodel the existing Station 91 to accommodate department growth and provide amenities comparable to the new facility. Fred said the consultant agreement cost represents roughly 8.5% of the projected project budget and that many building systems are original and about 25 years old and in need of upgrades.
Staff recommended approval of the agreement with OPN Architects; the council voted yes on the motion. Fred said the police-side modifications are intended as an interim measure to allow departmental expansion over the next five to seven years until additional new public facilities are planned. The council did not discuss contract dollar figures beyond the consultant fee percentage quoted by staff.
