Caitlin, representing Story County Animal Control, reported to the Board of Supervisors on July 22 that animal control took in 115 animals during the last quarter — 83 cats and 32 dogs — and completed 62 adoptions and 19 returns to owners. Caitlin said current shelter population as of July 15 was eight dogs and 64 cats.
Caitlin told supervisors animal control had 37 calls during the quarter, predominantly bite reports and confined stray animals. She said lower stray intake in recent weeks allowed staff to focus on transfers from the shelter’s wait list and rescue partners.
Staff participating in community outreach included a first‑ever “kitten shower” event aimed at recruiting fosters, a Get Outdoors Day with Story County Conservation that included puppies, and the annual Chasing Tails fun run, which raised $5,850 for the shelter. Caitlin said the shelter also received a $4,000 donation used to purchase beds for each animal in care.
Supervisors asked clarifying questions about the events; Caitlin described the kitten shower as an on‑site public event to showcase kittens, explain fostering and provide refreshments and informational activities.
