The New London Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee voted to authorize staff to submit an application to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources for a grant to develop an archery range at 740 River Road near the dog park.
Ginger told the committee the DNR grant has a $5,000 minimum award and that staff’s current estimate would cap the project at about $7,000, with the DNR covering 75 percent and the city responsible for the remaining 25 percent if awarded. "The grant is a $5,000 minimum," Ginger said during the discussion. She added staff is refining the design to ensure Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility and finalizing numbers.
The committee heard that a local young volunteer and possibly Boy Scouts are interested in contributing movable shooting stands that could be stored until permanent placement is feasible. Staff clarified this action is only to authorize submittal of the application; project timing could take two to three years for award and implementation because of federal funding review timelines.
A committee member asked about application fees; staff said there is no application fee. The motion to authorize submission was made by John, seconded by Bernie, and carried by voice vote.
