The New London Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee voted to approve and recommend to the City Council a contract award to Northeast Asphalt for the Wolf River Avenue courtesy parking lot (the Wilfrid Recur to see parking lot cited in packet) and the North Street resurfacing project.
Staff said two bids were received and that combining two nearby projects produced a cost saving. A staff member told the committee construction is expected to begin July 21. The contract also includes surfacing work that connects the trail to adjacent streets; equipment items such as a dock were described as separate purchases and not included in the asphalt contract.
A committee member raised questions about parking and potential permit parking once the lot is completed; staff said permit parking would be discussed after construction. The motion to award the contract to Northeast Asphalt was made, seconded and carried by voice vote.
Staff indicated future resurfacing and trail surfacing work toward the sculpture park is planned, with additional projects likely in 2026.
