Ripley adopts updated towing and parking enforcement ordinance

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen of Ripley on second reading adopted an amendment to Title 15, Chapter 7 of the Ripley municipal code to align local parking and towing rules with a 2024 state public act addressing towing and parking and to authorize a vehicle storage fee. On the record, the city attorney said the state law replaced the prior unlawful parking statutes and that the city has carried forward the new statute's provisions into the local code. The attorney said the ordinance includes a storage fee and that “we historically charged $10 a day, so we kept it at $10 a day.” Mayor Fitzhugh called the vote; board members voted in favor and no opposition was recorded, so the ordinance passed on second reading and will be adopted as of the meeting. The change updates enforcement language and establishes the local mechanism for collecting the storage fee for vehicles that are removed under the new state law.
