The Waukegan Community Unit School District 60 Board of Education appointed two student board members for the 2025–26 school year and administered their oaths July 9.
The administration recommended appointment of two students (names provided in the agenda and confirmed on the record). The motion to appoint was made by board member Nina Hannah and seconded by Christine Lensing. The full board voted unanimously in favor and President Michael Rodriguez administered the oath of office; both students then took their seats and participated in the meeting.
Board members praised the student candidates’ interview performances and encouraged them to raise issues they observe in their schools. Trustees emphasized the students’ role as the voice of their peers and reminded them they are non‑voting members but are encouraged to participate in discussion.
The board’s procedural record shows the appointments will be for the 2025–26 school year; the students are to participate at the next meeting and will be seated for ongoing meetings.
