Board of Education approves educational specifications for McDonough Elementary renovation

The Board of Education voted unanimously July 22 to accept educational specifications for the renovation and extension of McDonough Elementary School and to submit those specifications to the state Department of Administrative Services for approval. Chair Sheila Daniels called the special meeting and Marco Gelo introduced the item.
The motion to accept the educational specifications was moved by Deb Kaye and seconded by Liz Crooks. Joyce conducted a roll-call vote; all board members present voted in favor.
The specifications packet presented to the board lists room sizes, program adjacencies and other design guidance the district must submit to the Department of Administrative Services as part of the state review. Gelo told the board that several finish items, including flooring, were listed as placeholders and can be changed as the project progresses.
Board members asked only clarifying questions about finish items and thanked staff for sending the specifications in advance. No dissenting remarks were recorded. The board’s acceptance enables staff to proceed with the formal submission required for state review and future project steps, such as state fiscal closeout processes when construction is complete.
The board moved on after the vote to a separate project completion item on its agenda.
