State says federal Title II, III and IV awards are frozen; Moscow district braces for $35,000 shortfall

The district said carryover will fund a summer camp and a planned middle‑school activity, and that the shortfall of roughly $35,000 would otherwise have to be covered from the general fund or result in program reductions.
District staff and trustees discussed options such as freezing discretionary professional development and Title IV activities, and noted that Title I allocations (the district’s core intervention funding for Lena, McDonald and West Park) had not been identified as frozen by the SDE at the time of the meeting. Carrie said the state is “reviewing the grant balances on their end” and is monitoring developments with the U.S. Department of Education.
No formal board action was taken; the board directed staff to monitor updates from the SDE, prioritize carryover usage for current summer programming, and report back at the next meeting.
