MNPS celebrates Percy Priest ribbon cutting; Paragon Mills and Lakeview openings, Titans partnership to add turf fields Metro Nashville Public Schools staff told the board that Percy Priest’s new facility opened with a ribbon cutting and that Paragon Mills and Lakeview elementary schools will have grand openings this school year. Leaders also announced a partnership and investments that will add four turf fields ahead of the fall football season. The capital announcements affect school facilities, athletics and community use of school properties. Dr. Battle said she attended the ribbon cutting for Percy Priest and that it is the first of three grand openings; she credited the facilities team, the mayor and Metro Council, and civic fundraisers Shannon Martin and Katie Agnew for raising more than $5,000,000 in 67 days to enhance project features. Dr. Battle said Paragon Mills and Lakeview will be next. The district also announced a collaboration with the Tennessee Titans and Metro funding to install four new turf fields to be revealed before each school’s first home game. Dr. Battle listed the schools receiving turf fields: Hunters Lane, Cambridge, Glencliff and Antioch High School. The district said Alex Green Elementary’s footprint will be expanded to add learning spaces. No formal board vote was tied to the capital announcements during this portion of the meeting; the remarks were informational. Chief of operations Morris Sullivan and the facilities team were credited repeatedly for leading the projects. Quote from the meeting: • Dr. Battle: "I want to give a special shout out to Shannon Martin and Katie Agnew, who came alongside us and raised over $5,000,000 in 67 days, to further enhance these projects." (remarks about Percy Priest and other projects) District staff said turf fields and building openings will be revealed in coordination with school calendars and local athletic schedules.
