Lindbergh board approves AMI plan; DESE now requires board sign-off on alternative instruction

The Lindbergh School District Board of Education approved the district's Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI) plan by unanimous 7-0 vote after a brief presentation explaining the updated requirement from DESE. Megan moved the motion and Andy seconded.
"So, each year, we have an allowance of 36 hours that we can use as alternative methods of instruction if we were to exceed our emergency weather days in our calendar and need to provide instruction in an alternative way," said Dr. Sparks, a district staff member, describing the AMI allowance and how the district uses it. Dr. Sparks told the board that last year the district used AMI days and that the plans were revised based on that experience.
Dr. Sparks told the board this is the first year the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has required that AMI plans be board approved, which is why the plan was presented to the board for action. The materials presented include separate elementary and secondary plans and adjustments the district made after using AMI procedures in practice.
Board members voted to approve the AMI plan; recorded motion text is "Approve the alternative methods of instruction AMI plan as presented." The vote passed 7-0. No further conditions or follow-up tasks were recorded in the meeting minutes; board members were invited to ask staff for additional details after the meeting.
