Michael Gordy, assistant director of IT, said the purchase addresses a roughly 20% annual replacement plan and is intended to restore device availability for Project Lead The Way courses.
Gordy told the board the requested laptops will replace aging Asus Chrome devices and are intended to be placed in two STEM classrooms. He said the Project Lead The Way curriculum provides required software without a separate licensing purchase, so staff will load curriculum tools directly onto the devices. Gordy described the purchase as part of a multi‑year refresh to spread costs and avoid a single large purchase in one year.
Board questions covered pacing of purchases, committee oversight of technology subscriptions and whether purchased devices will match the district’s current models. Gordy said administrators and technology staff coordinated over the spring to identify needs and that a technology plan and subscription review will be presented to the board in a future meeting.
The motion to approve the STEM laptop purchase was made, seconded and passed.
