St. Charles summer enrichment program served 87 children and 5,559 meals, parish says

PARS President Jewell reported that the Department of Community Services completed a six-week summer enrichment program at community centers in Bootes, St. Rose and Kelowna and that the program theme was Louisiana heritage.
Jewell said 87 children participated in the program and that the parish served 5,559 summer meals. He added that staff observed more parents joining children for meals, often by paying a $4 fee to participate. "We had 87 kids participate in this program. Community services also did summer feeding ... 5,559 meals served and we did see a lot more parents participating, coming to eat with their kids, paying $4 to be a part of that," Jewell said.
Jewell called the program a growing service that helps ensure students have meals while school is out. He did not provide detailed cost or funding-source breakdowns during the report.
