St. Charles replaces aging dry-pit lift station in River Oaks subdivision

PARS President Jewell reported that parish contractors began excavation to replace an aging dry-pit lift station behind River Oaks Drive, near the railroad tracks behind the public works office.
Jewell said the dry-pit stations tend to leak as they age and that the parish is converting older systems to submersible lift stations, which he described as more efficient, less prone to backup and easier to maintain. "The submersible stations are more efficient. They don't back up as easily. We have the variable drive motors on those pumps and then they're easier to work on and maintain," Jewell said.
The project is part of an ongoing parish effort to invest in lift stations across the system to increase capacity and reduce maintenance burdens. Jewell did not provide a construction timeline or budget for the River Oaks replacement during his report.
